        Have you ever wondered who built Cheyenne Mountain Zoo?  Katherine Lee Bates is good, but Spencer Penrose is the best!  Spencer Penrose had amazing life, was important to Colorado Springs, and his life and mine is different and the same in many ways.

        To start off with, Spencer Penrose had an interesting life. Spencer Penrose built four buildings!  Spencer Penrose also built a street. Those five things are still here today!

        In addition, Spencer Penrose was extremely important to Colorado Springs. Spencer Penrose built the Broadmoor, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, and Pikes Peak School.

        Lastly, Spencer Penrose and I are the same and different in many ways. I have not built 4 buildings or 1 street yet. I love animals, and he does too. Spencer Penrose and I were not born here. We both moved here.

        Truly, although there are many famous people to Colorado Springs, I hope you liked everything I told you about Spencer Penrose. It is clear that Spencer Penrose had an exciting life, was important to Colorado Springs, and his life and mine are the same and different in many ways. Would you imagine Colorado Springs without the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo?

Do you know who built the Myron Stratton Home? General Palmer was a great man, but I think Winfield Scott Stratton was the best! Winfield Scott Stratton had an interesting life, was important to Colorado Springs, and there are thousands of things we have both in common and different.

To start, Winfield Scott Stratton had an amazing background. He was born on July 14, 1842 and died on September 14, 1902. He was born at Jefferson, Indiana and worked as a great carpenter.    

After that, Winfield Scott Stratton was amazingly important to Colorado Springs, CO. He made the Myron Stratton Home for people that were homeless or had no parents. He also gave money to people for shelter, food, and water after the Cripple Creek fire that was enormous not tiny.    

Also, Winfield Scott Stratton and I had some things in common and different. He and I are the same because if I had millions of dollars, I would give some to people if they don’t have any. We are different, for he liked to build things I also like to do that but not like him because he built the Myron Stratton Home and that is a neighborhood.    

Surely, even though Zebulon Pike helped in history, I still think Winfield Scott Stratton is the best! It is clear that he had an exciting life, was important to Colorado Springs, and we were the same and different in many ways. I hope the next time you are talking to somebody about history, then I hope you talk about the amazing Winfield Scott Stratton.

        Have you ever wondered who built the Broadmoor? Even though different people like different interesting people in the past, Spencer Penrose is my favorite. Spencer Penrose had an interesting life, was important to Colorado Springs, and there are some things that are different between us.

        As starters, Spencer Penrose had a fantastic background. He was born on Nov. 2, 1939. He was also married to Julie Penrose. Spencer arrived in Colorado to join his fellow friends. He was involved in a host of ground-breaking projects.

        Additionally, Spencer Penrose was extremely important to Colorado Springs past. He built the Broadmoor Hotel in 1918. Spencer also built the beautiful Pikes Peak. Spencer Penrose built the Cheyenne Mountain Auto Highway, too. Spencer built the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo also.

        Last but not least, Spencer Penrose and I have some things that are different between us. He had a pet bear and I don’t! Spencer moved to Colorado Springs when he was an adult and I’ve been in Colorado my whole entire life. He had to move to places by horse or wagon and I move to places by car or plane. Spencer went to school at a different place, and I went to Oak Creek.

        As you can see, William Wilcox is a great person, but I think Spencer Penrose is the best. It is clear that Spencer Penrose had a wonderful life, was important to Colorado Springs, and there were some things that were different between us. Do you know who let women vote? Helen Hunt Jackson was important, but Henry McAllister was more important. Henry McAllister had an interesting life, he was important to Colorado Springs, and Henry McAllister has a different life than me.

To begin, Henry McAllister had an amazing background. Henry McAllister got married and had kids. Henry McAllister’s daughters’ graduated from Colorado College.  

Also, Henry McAllister was extremely important to Colorado Springs. Henry McAllister let women vote. Henry McAllister was the president of the Broad Town Trustees from 1875-1877.

Finally, Henry McAllister had a different life than mine because he was important to Colorado Springs and I’m not yet. Henry McAllister let women vote, but I can’t yet.

Truly, Helen Hunt Jackson was important, but Henry McAllister was more important. It is clear that Henry McAllister had an important life, he was important to Colorado Springs, and Henry McAllister is different than me. I told you some stuff about Henry McAllister, but there is more stuff about him online.

        Have you ever wondered who wrote America the Beautiful? Even though Spencer Penrose is ok, Katherine Lee Bates is the best!!!!! Katherine Lee Bates had an interesting life, she was important to Colorado Springs, CO, and her life was like mine.

          To start, Katherine Lee Bates had a thrilling background. She was born on August, 12 1859 & died on Mach, 28 1929. She lived in Wellesley Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Congregation Pastor.

          Also, Katherine is extremely important to Colorado Springs history. She wrote America the Beautiful at the top of Pikes Peak. Before it was a song it was a poem.

          Lastly, Katherine and I are the same, for we like to write songs. Katherine is also the same because we like to climb to the top of Pikes Peak and write songs.

          Truly, Count James Portales is okay, but Katherine is even better. It is clear that Katherine had a fasnating life, was important to Colorado Springs, and we have a lot alike. I hope when you read about people, you read about Katherine Lee Bates!

Do you know who found Pikes Peak? Although I have a lot of people I want to learn about, I picked Zebulon Pike. Zebulon Pike had an interesting life, was important to Colorado Springs, and there are some things that are different and also the same about him and me.  

To start, Zebulon Pike had an interesting background. He was born on Jan. 5, 1779. He had a wife and a girl. His career was working as military. He died on April 1813. He died at the age of 34 because someone was mean and shot him.

Also, Zebulon Pike was extremely important to Colorado Springs. He found Pikes Peak while on a mission. Zebulon Pike tried to climb Pikes Peak to find it. That’s how the mountain got its name.

Zebulon Pike and I are kind of different and the same by an inch. I didn’t find Pikes Peak, but we both went to school. Zebulon Pike fought in the war, but I did not. We both are kind, and he is bigger and older than me.

Truly, Helen Hunt Jackson is interesting, but Zebulon Pike is more interesting than her. It is clear that Zebulon had an exciting life, was important to Colorado Springs, and we had some things in common but some things the same back then. Can you image what Colorado Springs would look like if Zebulon Pike didn’t find Pikes Peak?

Do you know who named Helen Hunt Falls? Zebulon Pike is fun to read about, but Helen Hunt Jackson is the best! Helen Hunt Jackson had an interesting life, was important to Colorado Springs, and we have some things in common too.

To start, Helen Hunt Jackson has a fascinating background. She was born on October 18, 1830. She had two brothers and one sister. Her mother died in 1844. She died on August 12, 1885.

Also, Helen Hunt Jackson was important to Colorado Springs history. She completed a 56 page report about joining the native and white people together. She married a U.S.A army captain.

Last but not least, Helen Hunt Jackson is dead, but we still have things in common.  We write our own books. We both like waterfalls. We have a library at our house.

Truly, even though there many famous pioneers to pick, I would pick Helen Hunt Jackson. Helen Hunt Jackson had an interesting life, was important to Colorado Springs, and we have things in common too. If you do a report on pioneers, do Helen Hunt Jackson.

Emily - It's Good to Rotate

It’s Good to Rotate

Although many people would say to stay in the same classroom in third grade next year, I would choose to rotate. To start, you’ll meet new nice teaching teachers. The teachers are butterflies. It’s super boring to have the same teacher all year. Trust me, I’ve only had one teacher before. After that, if you rotate, different fantastic kids will meet you. Sometimes you will meet different wonderful kids, too! That would make me excited. Last but not least, you might fall asleep if you’re in the same room all day. Last year, a kid in my class fell asleep during a hard test. Yikes! I jumped out of my socks when I saw him. That was because he was in the same class all day. Clearly, being in the same class can be as boring as sitting and watching TV all day.
